For her movie role in Wild, based on Cheryl Strayed’s best-selling memoir about hiking the Pacific Crest Trail after her mother’s death, Reese Witherspoon hired a hypnotist “to get her through the racy sex scenes.” After the death of her mother, Strayed started to use heroin and had a number of one-night stands that Reese’s own experience didn’t quite prepare her for, apparently.
During an interview with Vogue, Witherspoon said the drug scenes in Wild were difficult to film (Strayed showed Witherspoon how to shoot heroin) but not as difficult as the sex scenes. Witherspoon hasn’t done a nude scene since her role in the 1998 film Twilight starring Gene Hackman, Susan Sarandon, and Paul Newman. And then there was the time she got wild with Mark Wahlberg in the 1996 film Fear.
