Motown singing sensation Smokey Robinson (formerly with The Miracles) has released a duets album called Smokey & Friends. A diverse group of friends – from Elton John to Steven Tyler to Mary J. Blige – sing with Smokey some of his most famous songs including My Girl and The Tracks of My Tears.
American Idol host Randy Jackson produced the record, which incorporates many different styles including Tyler’s “rock fireworks.” Tyler sings You Really Got a Hold on Me which Brian McColuum of Motown’s local paper Detroit Free Press wrote “sounds inspired more by the Beatles than the Miracles.” Robinson said of Tyler: “He kicks butt.”
