We knew Barbra Streisand has something special to promote when she joined Instagram last week. Turns out she’s working on a duets album including “a virtual vocal pairing with the late Elvis Presley.” Babs wanted Elvis to co-star with her in the 1976 film, A Star is Born, but Elvis’ people wanted top billing and weren’t crazy about the idea of Elvis portraying a singer who’s career was going downhill. (Kris Kristofferson got the role instead.)
Living men collaborating with Streisand on the duets mix include Michael Bublé, Billy Joel, Stevie Wonder, Andrea Bocelli and John Legend. This isn’t Streisand’s first album of duets. She released Duets in 2002 with Barry Manilow, Celine Dion, Barry Gibb and Donna Summer. For Babs, Duets was a moderate success selling nearly 1.5 million copies worldwide. Fans expect this one with exhumed Elvis to exceed that.
