Australian boy band and pop sensation Five Seconds of Summer (5SOS) just posted the “lyric” video for “Amnesia”–from their debut album. Filmed in moody black and white, the camera pans a messy, vacant bedroom. A stereotypical screenager’s room – unmade bed, clothes on the floor. And then the lyrics of the song appear and they echo the mood of the setting–empty, messy, bleak. In a stenciled font, the words take over the screen, moving across the room, across the window, the rug, the bureau.
Some 5SOS fans will think that the boys in the band get painfully little camera time. And when they do appear, those dour lyrics – with the refrain “Cause I’m not fine at all” – run across their faces like memories they can’t shake. It’s called “Amnesia” but they can’t forget. The song has already affected some young lives. In the comments at YouTube, TommyMila says: “I started listening a falling in love with this song a few months ago, when I was living with my girlfriend. I also made a cover of this song and I sent it to her, and she loved it. Only a few days later she left me, and now I couldn’t speak better than this song.”
