In the 9-1-1 episode “Stuck,” the first responders race to rescue victims trapped in various tight spots. One man was proposing marriage to his girlfriend when the escalator he was on collapsed. Meanwhile, Athena (Angela Bassett) is approached by LAPD Captain Elaine Maynard about a promotion that would take Athena out of the field. Last time Captain Maynard appeared on 9-1-1 was in the January episode “Worst Day Ever“, when the team responded to a deadly plane crash at the airport.
Captain Elaine Maynard on 9-1-1 is portrayed by Claudia Christian. She’s best known for her role as Commander Susan Ivanova in the Babylon 5 TV series and TV movies. In her memoir, Babylon Confidential, Christian writes about her battle with alcoholism and her 20-year on-and-off relationship with billionaire Dodi Fayed before he dated Princess Diana.
Writer and critic Neil Gaiman wrote this about Claudia Christian’s astonishingly candid book: “An honest, page-turning insight into alcoholism and the road back out.” 9-1-1 airs Mondays at 9pm on FOX.
