In the Young Sheldon episode “Gluons, Guacamole, and the Color Purple,” Sheldon (Iain Armitage) is no longer academically challenged at Medford High School. So he jumps at the chance to audit a college class taught by Dr. John Sturgis (guest star Wallace Shawn). Turns out Dr. Sturgis and Sheldon’s Mee-Maw (Annie Potts) hit it off, too. But it’s not all smooth sailing. The NASA Director seen in the photo above looks concerned and it involves Dr. Sturgis.

The NASA Director is portrayed by Michael Cudlitz. He’s known for his roles on The Walking Dead (Sgt. Abraham Ford), House of Lies (Kohl Brother), Southland (Office John Cooper), Lost (Detective Big Mike Walton), Prison Break (Corrections Officer Bob Hudson), 24 (Rick Phillips), Band of Brothers (Bull Randleman), and Beverly Hills, 90210 (Tony Miller), among others. Cudlitz is also well recognized for his roles in the films Grosse Pointe Blank (Bob Destepello) and Robert Redford’s A River Runs Through It (Chub).
