In the Chicago Med episode “On Shaky Ground,” while Drs. Manning (Torrey DeVitto) and Halstead (Nick Gehlfuss) disagree about how to guide a family who’s dealing with a premature baby, Dr. Rhodes (Colin Donnell) agrees to perform a risky surgery on Dr. Ava Bekker’s (Norma Kuhling) mentor, the world-renowned heart surgeon Dr. Marvin Jaffrey. Jaffrey has a tumor on his right lung that needs to be removed. He wants his star pupil (Bekker) to oversee the procedure…and he wants to be awake for the surgery.
