CNN reports that President Donald Trump’s chief strategist Steve Bannon has been removed from the Principals Committee of the National Security Council. CNN Senior White House Correspondent Jeff Zeleny was at the White House when he reported live: “It’s incredibly interesting,” because as Zeleny recounts, “the decision to put a political strategist on the Principals Committee of the National Security Council was heavily scrutinized and criticized by Republicans and Democrats alike.” Zeleny goes on to explain the position. “He (Bannon) essentially had the same seat at the table as the Joint Chiefs of Staff, the Secretary of Defense, and the Secretary of State.”
Zeleny reports that the readjustment is “largely because the new National Security Advisor, General H.R. McMaster is now in charge of this.” The decision is bringing a “more traditional structure to the National Security Council.” Zeleny also reports that he has heard that Bannon wanted to be removed and (from another source) “not to believe that.”
