Mariah’s World is meant to give fans a look into her private life, which she swears is nothing like her life growing up. “It wasn’t always like this,” says the 46-year-old who is worth more than $500 million. She says she moved to Manhattan as a teenage girl. “It was an exciting time for me, even though I had nothing.” Her nephew Shawn McDonald backs up her claim by saying, “There were a lot of economic and other difficulties when we were growing up.” He says he admires “Mimi” for overcoming that. On the show, Mariah says, “I lived like on a mattress on the floor, and I was writing my songs and being a horrible waitress.” And then her demo tape ended up at Sony “and they signed it away.” Mariah’s World airs Sundays at 9pm on E!.
