Prepare for yet another name to be tossed into the “he would make a good James Bond” discussion. While the Internet’s boyfriend, Idris Elba seems to be auditioning for the role in the trailer for Bastille Day, another Tumblr favorite, Tom Hiddleston is now no doubt under consideration following the premiere episode of the TV spy drama The Night Manager. Hiddleston is all cut-glass cheekbones, piercing eyes, and magnificent hair; he carries himself with a suave, unflappable demeanor; he has the whole English gentleman thing down pat; and crucially for any potential Bond, he wears a suit very well.
The Night Manager, based on a novel by John le Carré, sees Hiddleston as a former soldier, now the ultra-smooth manager of an upscale Swiss hotel, crossing paths with an arms dealer (an oily Hugh Laurie) and his entourage. Le Carré himself is extremely pleased with the television adaptation of his book, even though several details have been changed. It’s already a critical and ratings success. It’s screened in Britain on BBC on Sunday nights; AMC will show it beginning April 19.
