“I have huge respect for Lady Gaga and I wanna tell you why,” tweeted John Mayer. And here’s why: “She released a record that didn’t get the love she was probably hoping for, which happens to REAL artists.” Mayer was looking to tell the world his opinion and curry a little favor with Lady Gaga in the process–what’s not to love? And Mayer wasn’t content with his own opinion either. The singer urged “everyone else” to get on board. “Carry on Gaga,” Mayer wrote. “I can dig it. Everyone else should, too.”

The newly engaged Gaga was polite, but she didn’t gush, responding: “That was really cool @JohnMayer So thoughtful. The respect is mutual.” You know when you tell someone “I love you” and they just say “thanks”? It’s a little disappointing, right? Mayer seemed to have a change of heart today on Twitter about endorsing other artists. He tweeted: “One of the best things you can do for yourself as a person is to practice having no opinion…”
