Teen idol Justin Bieber pleaded guilty this week to misdemeanor charges of careless driving and resisting arrest at what Miami Beach police called “an illegal street drag race.” Think James Dean in A Rebel Without A Cause but with a rented Lamborghini and a Ferrari (driven by R&B singer Khalil Amir Sharieff). The Guardian reports: “Bieber was also charged with resisting arrest after a profanity-laced tirade against police officers.” The Canadian native is also accused of assaulting a limo driver in his hometown of Stratford in December 2013. The court date for that assault case in Toronto is set for September 8, 2014.
Police video from the January 2014 incident “depicted Bieber walking unsteadily during a sobriety test” although alcohol breath tests found Bieber’s level below the 0.02 limit for underage drivers. (He’s still 20.) A urine test showed the presence of marijuana and the anti-anxiety drug Xanax in Bieber’s system. Common side effects of Xanax include dizziness and disinhibition which is defined as “a lack of restraint manifested in disregard for social conventions, impulsivity, and poor risk assessment.”
