GEICO delivers more laughs in half a minute than most comedians do in full sets. (If only most big Hollywood comedies were as funny for 90 minutes as the average GEICO ad is for 30 seconds!) The writing is always great, and the actors too, but now with the wildly compelling “Massage Chairs Reduce Home-Buying Stress” commercial (SEE BELOW), GEICO adds special effects to the mix! Sure, it’s not Pixar. The effects instead are decidedly analog — just a bunch of massage chairs set too high. But this is the most watchable, and re-watchable ad currently on TV.
Young Keith L. Williams, born in 2007, steals the show as the hungry son in the family — as his adorable, expressive cheeks quake while the family discusses buying a new home. If you can’t get enough of that face, it may be helpful to know that Williams plays Jasper in the Fox TV series Last Man On Earth. Williams has also had recurring appearances on The Goldbergs, Suburgatory, and Teachers.
The GEICO gimmick, of course, is that the massage chairs relieve stress and home-buying causes it. But the massage chair solution doesn’t work quite so well around the dining room table as hoped, and the family tries to eat and practice shaky stress relief at the same time. At least the family dog, cat and bunny benefit from the food that flies from the table. Go ahead, try to watch it just once:
