Before the Lifetime movie Conrad & Michelle based on the same incident, 48 Hours interviews Lynn Roy, the mother of Conrad Roy III, the 18-year-old who committed suicide in his truck on July 13, 2014 in Fairhaven, Pennsylvania. The episode is titled “Death by Text” as it investigates the 2017 trial of Conrad’s friend Michelle Carter, who was found guilty of involuntary manslaughter. She was accused of urging Conrad to kill himself via texts and phone calls. Lynn Roy tells 48 Hours: “I don’t believe she (Carter) has a conscience. She knew exactly what she was doing.” Carter received a sentence of 2.5 years in prison.
48 Hours is airing the”Death by Text” episode (Saturday, Sept 22, 10pm, CBS) just one day before Lifetime airs its TV movie Conrad & Michelle: If Words Could Kill on Sunday, September 23 at 8pm. In the Lifetime movie, actress Bella Thorne (Disney Channel’s Shake It Up) plays Michelle; and Austin P. McKenzie (When We Rise, young Cleve Jones/Guy Pearce) plays Conrad.
