Sweetbitter is a new TV drama series on Starz that tells the life of 22-year-old Tess. It’s 2006, and she’s just come to New York City. She lands an opportunity to train at the hot restaurant downtown. On the job, she meets eccentric people, does wild things and is occasionally forced to pay for the fun she’s had. (The show is based on the New York Times Bestselling novel by Stephanie Danler.) Tess is portrayed by Ella Purnell. Born and raised in London, England, Purnell is known for her roles in the films Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children (Emma), Maleficent (teen Maleficent/Angelina Jolie), Kick-Ass 2 (Dolce), and Never Let Me Go (as young Ruth/Keira Knightley).
