In the Law & Order: Special Victims Unit episode “Dare,” when a little girl dies tragically at Mercy Hospital, it becomes a criminal case. At the hospital, surgeon Dr. Lorraine Franchella (guest star Janel Moloney) takes it upon herself to harvest the girl’s organs without parental consent. In court, the doctor is represented by defense attorney Nikki Staines. Last time Staines appeared on Law & Order: SVU was in 2016, when she defended a man who posed as a college admissions director to have sex with mothers of prospective students.
