In the My 600-lb Life two-hour episode “Benji and David’s Story,” David says he’s struggled with weight his whole life. As the eldest of six kids, he explains that with his father gone most of the time, he was raised by his mother and great grandmother who “kept him quiet” by letting him eat junk food whenever they wanted. They didn’t have a lot of money so splurging on cupcakes and cheap burgers was like a treat. David is now 700 lbs., and he’s concerned about his younger brother Benji who is getting to be almost as big as David. Benji didn’t always struggle with his weight like David. When he was little, his mother Rhonda entered him in beauty pageants. David admits that his exclusion from entering beauty pageants hurt his feelings.
In the My 600lb Life clip below, the two brothers sprawl out in the living room and eat together. Benji says, “Me and David just like to eat.” It’s a heartbreaking scene and a strange one thanks to the medieval knight statue standing between the brothers. (See photo above.) Medieval knights were also famous for feasting. My 600lb Life airs Wednesdays at 8pm on TLC.
