Karen Freeman-Wilson is the mayor of Gary, Indiana. She’s decided to check in on the employees of the city on an episode of Undercover Boss. Freeman-Wilson was born in Gary, a city known for its high violent crime rate. She returned to Gary after graduating from Harvard College and Harvard Law School.
After two mayoral runs (in 2003 and 2007), Freeman-Wilson (a Democrat) became the city’s first female mayor in 2012. She launched her career as a presiding judge of the Gary City Court (1995 to 2000) and was later appointed Indiana Attorney General. After leaving office, she became CEO of the National Association of Drug Court Professionals, Executive Director of the National Drug Court Institute, and director of the Indiana Civil Rights Commission. Undercover Boss airs Wednesdays at 8pm and 9pm on CBS.
