Run DMC is no longer — but Darryl McDaniels is still going strong. It wasn’t easy after the hip-hop trio (DMC McDaniels, Rev Run Simmons, Jam Master Jay Mizell) stopped performing together. (Mizell was fatally shoot in 2002.) McDaniels details his personal demons in his memoir, Ten Ways Not Commit Suicide. The first chapter is subtitled: Dealing with Darkness, Depression, and a Death Wish.
In the book, McDaniels writes: “From about 1995 through the early 2000s, I wrestled with deep depression, thoughts of suicide, and a relapse into the alcohol abuse I thought I’d left behind years earlier.” It was during that time when McDaniels was diagnosed with “a rare form of spasmodic dysphonia.” Looking good in 2016, McDaniels will perform on Taraji’s White Hot Holidays on December 8, 8pm on FOX.
