Faylene Grant was a devout Mormon who kept a journal. Just one month after remarrying her husband Doug Grant, Faylene wrote about her own death. “I must have faith in Doug’s vision. He dreams it every night now…that I will get to go to the Celestial Kingdom.” It was Doug who found Faylene drowned in the bathtub. Some believe her death was an accident (she took a lot of pain killers before getting into the tub), others think it was a suicide. But Faylene’s daughter Jenna believes her stepfather, celebrity nutritionist Doug Grant, murdered her mother. Jenna isn’t alone. Prosecutor Juan Martinez believes Doug Grant’s motive for murder was a younger woman. Plus, there’s the fact that Grant didn’t call 911 when he found Faylene unresponsive in the tub.
Prior to remarrying Faylene, Doug fell in love with a 19-year-old receptionist at his office, Hilary Dewitt. Three weeks after Faylene’s death, Doug married Hilary. “I know how people feel about us getting married so quick,” Hilary told 48 Hours. “I don’t care what people perceive about me. I am who I am and that’s my life…” In 2009, Doug Grant was found guilty of manslaughter in the death of Faylene and was sentenced to five years in prison. 48 Hours Hard Evidence on TLC will air its report “Death Prophecy” on February 22 at 9pm.
