For the Live Finale of The Voice, Gwen Stefani and her mentee Jeffery Austin will sing a duet together. Austin told Yahoo! Music they will sing “Leather and Lace,” which was originally performed by Stevie Nicks (Fleetwood Mac) and Don Henley (The Eagles). Nicks was asked by Waylon Jennings to write the song for him to sing with his wife, Jessi Colter, but the couple broke up. So Nicks and Henley, who were dating at the time, sang it together.
“Leather and Lace” is about two people in the music business who are trying to handle success and stardom and love. Nicks once said: “It’s probably the hardest thing in the world to do because it [a relationship] falls out of your hands and into the hands of the world, which tends to want you to not be able to handle it.” Gwen Stefani, who recently announced her divorce from Gavin Rossdale and her new relationship with Blake Shelton, will No Doubt be able to relate to the lyrics. The Voice airs Mondays and Tuesdays at 8pm on NBC.
