Grace of Monaco is a French-American biopic about Grace Kelly (Nicole Kidman), the American actress who became the Princess of Monaco after marrying Prince Rainier III (Tim Roth). Kelly was best known for her roles in the films High Noon, Dial M for Murder, Rear Window, To Catch a Thief and High Society. She retired from acting at the age of 26 to marry Rainier. They had three children – Caroline, Albert and Stephanie. Princess Grace died in 1982 after suffering a stroke while driving. The car crashed. Her daughter Princess Stephanie was in the passenger seat, she survived.
Grace of Monaco opened the 2014 Cannes Film Festival but was pulled from release. Princess Grace’s children criticized the film and described it as “needlessly glamorized and historically inaccurate.” Although they had requested several changes to the script, their requests were ignored. According to biographer Jeffrey Robinson, when Kelly’s daughter Princess Caroline read the script she thought “it was meant to be a comedy, then realized it was simply fiction.” Grace of Monaco makes its debut on Lifetime on May 25 at 8pm.
