Lifetime’s new original movie, Kept Woman, is about a woman imprisoned by a neighbor who lures her into his home. And the victim isn’t alone. There’s another woman in the house who’s been held captive for so long that she’s been brainwashed into living as her captor’s faithful companion. If this story sounds familiar it’s because it is. Kept Woman is inspired by the story of Ariel Castro, the depraved Cleveland man who kidnapped, imprisoned and raped three women in his house for years. He was arrested in 2013, and soon after was found dead in his prison cell.
Lifetime has given the Ariel Castro story a strange twist. The Castro-esque character Simon (played by Shaun Benson) likes to live in the past – the 50s to be exact. Every inch of his wardrobe and the house décor is boldly and strangely beautiful–sort of the way Mad Men looks. His captives are dressed in 1950s attire, too. Actress Courtney Ford (True Blood, Parenthood, Dexter) stars as the Kept Woman. Rachel Wilson plays the brainwashed one.
