Emmy-nominated actress Jan Hooks of Saturday Night Live fame died on Thursday in New York at the age of 57. Hooks was best known for her lounge singing Sweeney Sisters skit with Nora Dunn on SNL. Hooks was a cast member of the show from 1986-1991. Hooks’ success on television continued on Designing Women, Third Rock From the Sun and The Simpsons.
Hooks did fine impersonations of Tammy Faye Bakker, Hillary Clinton, Bette Davis, Ann-Margret, Sally Kellerman and Jodie Foster. Prior to SNL, she was part of the Los Angeles improv group The Groundlings which nurtured the careers of other SNL alums including Phil Hartman, Will Ferrell, Will Forte, Ana Gasteyer, Kristen Wiig, among others. The cause of death was not revealed.
