Nintendo’s legendary game designer Shigeru Miyamoto (Donkey Kong, Super Mario Bros., The Legend of Zelda) told UK’s Edge magazine that his team will focus on making games for people who aren’t “passive.” He described this set of people as those who might want to watch a movie instead of going to Disneyland.
The idea of customers wanting to sit back and be entertained rather than be involved in the entertainment doesn’t sit well with Miyamoto. “It’s kind of a passive attitude they’re taking, and to me it’s kind of a pathetic thing.” This month’s issue of Edge, E271, is devoted to Miyamoto and his efforts to advance Nintendo’s Wii U video game console.
