Indie filmmaker Mark Twitchell of Edmonton, Canada was convicted of killing 39-year-old Johnny Altinger in October 2008. Twitchell, who was obsessed with the serial killer TV show Dexter, lured Altinger into his garage studio by using a fake dating profile on the website PlentyofFish. Altinger wasn’t Twitchell’s first victim.
One week earlier, Twitchell lured Gilles Tetreault to the same garage. Twitchell ambushed Tetreault and used a stun gun but Tetreault was able to fight back and escape. When Twitchell lured in Altinger, he ambushed Altinger and stabbed him to death with a knife. Seven years after the attack, Tetreault has written a book about his ordeal titled The One Who Got Away. Dateline NBC will air its investigative report on the attack of Tetreault and the murder of Altinger on March 26 at 8pm.
