The photo exists in the space somewhere between a high fashion shoot and a social statement — it’s almost the perfect embodiment of Internet celebrity activism and assertion in the 21st century style. Wow.
Of course, part of the way the photo fits into the zeitgeist is that other celebrities react and praise. The actress Hilary Duff, who has 14 million Instagram followers, chimed in with this comment on Mitchell’s extraordinary photo: “That exactly what I looked liiiike !!! 😂”
After all, what’s 21st century celebrity approbation without a healthy dose of self-reference?!! Superstar Vanessa Hudgens was even more wow’d, it seems, by the beauty and audacity — indeed the natural perfection — of Mitchell’s photo. Hudgens simply said, presumably throwing up her hands at the gorgeousness on display: “I mean come onnnnn 😍.”
