Big name rappers including Fat Joe and Ja Rule and Murder Inc co-founder Irv Gotti and their adult children are starring in the spin-off Growing Up Hip Hop: New York. While Fat Joe clashes with his son Ryan about his music career, Gotti deals with his son JJ after being arrested.
When not executive producing and filming Growing Up Hip Hop: New York, Gotti is working on his BET show Tales, “a scripted anthology series transforming the lyrics of hip hop’s greatest hits into captivating visual narratives.”
When Gotti received a nice shout-out from his long-time friend, Oscar nominated movie producer Todd Phillips (Borat), he shared the private text. Phillips, the guy behind The Hangover movies, A Star Is Born, and Old School, among others, texted Gotti a message of sincere support and encouragement.
Phillips is currently promoting his upcoming psychological thriller, Joker, starring Joaquin Phoenix as the disturbed villain, which will be in theaters on October 4.
Growing Up Hip Hop: New York airs Thursdays at 9 pm on WE, right after Growing Up Hip Hop: Atlanta at 8 pm and right before Beyond the Pole at 10:30 pm.
