Steve Harvey has been in the news most recently for being replaced as host of Little Big Shots by Hollywood comedic actress Melissa McCarthy (Bridesmaids, Ghostbusters). Harvey also recently taped the final episode of his syndicated daytime talk show Steve. His special guest was his eldest son Broderick Harvey, Jr., who got real about his relationship with his father. (Broderick’s mother is Steve Harvey’s first wife, Marcia.)

Broderick explains on the show that his father “wasn’t full time in my life until I was 16.” Broderick was living with his mother in Cleveland until then. He said his father invited him to move to Atlanta with him “to bring the family together.” While he thought moving to Atlanta would “hurt my mom,” Broderick says, “At 16, I knew that’s what I needed as a man.”
A few days before the Steve episode airs, Harvey wished his son a happy 28th birthday and wrote “I hope your life is filled with joys along the way just keep fighting through the rest of it.” Broderick Harvey runs a fashion line called Need Money Not Friends: t-shirts with the phrase are sold for $35, gold plated NMNF money clips are $18.
