Pop icon Britney Spears hasn’t released new music since her 2016 album Glory (see below) but that got her on tour again. Her “Piece of Me Tour” (which ended in January 2018) grossed $54.3 million and was nominated for People’s Choice Concert Tour of 2018 at the People’s Choice Awards. (Alas, Britney lost to Taylor Swift’s Reputation Stadium Tour.) But the one thing Britney has that Taylor doesn’t (and Taylor can’t take away from her) is Britney’s Guinness World Records titles which includes “Best-selling album by a teenage solo artist” for her debut album …Baby One More Time, among others.
Spears, the 37-year-old mother of two, continues to cash-in on her past success, and why not? The appetite for Britney seems insatiable. At least four of Spears’s popular songs will be featured in a musical, Once Upon a One More Time, headed to Broadway. Not only that, but two choreographers from Jennifer Lopez’s TV competition World of Dance are choreographing the show. The adorable husband and wife team, Keone and Mari, made it to the finals of Season 1 of World of Dance (Les Twins won). The urban dance duo are known as being two of the best storytellers on stage (see them perform on World of Dance below).

The stage production Once Upon a One More Time is about a group of famous fairy tale princesses who are in a book club together but they just keep reading the same book over and over again (Grimm’s Fairy Tales) until Cinderella makes a desperate wish for a new story.
“A rogue fairy godmother drops The Feminine Mystique in her corseted lap. Oh baby, baby… could there really be more to life than bridesmaid dresses, friendships with woodland creatures, and dreams of a prince’s kiss?” according to promotional material. Britney Spears’s songs “Oops I Did It Again”, “Lucky”, “Circus”, and “Toxic” will help tell Cinderella story with a feminist twist.

Spears said about the show: “I’m so excited to have a musical with my songs — especially one that takes place in such a magical world filled with characters that I grew up on, who I love and adore,” Spears said. “This is a dream come true for me!” Once Upon a One More Time will open on October 29, 2019 at the James M. Nederlander Theatre in Chicago before heading to Broadway. (It will run in Chicago until December 1, 2019.)
