Superstar Cuban-American singer Camila Cabello is just 21 years old, and already 1.5 billion people have listened to her hit single “Havana” on YouTube alone. (That’s not counting sales, Spotify plays, etc.) Those 1.5 billion views made the song an easy choice for Mastercard when it wanted to communicate a funky street sweetness in its feelgood new TV commercial asking people “What if you took a moment to surprise someone?” But Mastercard didn’t just borrow the song, the company was smart enough to hire the luminous Cabello, too. The singer radiates joy and generosity as she strolls through a hyper-kinetic fantasy of clean, kind street life where Mastercard shows people delivering the magic of surprises and gifts and happiness.

In the commercial, Cabello uses her phone to put cupcakes into the hands of overjoyed children, and then she receives a magical cupcake in return. All the while the brightest most vibrant energy on screen isn’t the rainbow hues of the magically conjured cupcakes but Cabello herself. She saunters, dances, spins, smiles and pretty much embodies the ideas of youth, optimism, talent, and enjoying the moment. As Mastercard likes to say, it’s priceless! Cabello was part of the popular group Fifth Harmony, put together by music starmaker Simon Cowell after Cabello’s appearance on Cowell’s The X Factor TV show. Her solo career is taking off like a rocket. More photos below.
