The Voice coach and defending champion Kelly Clarkson is in the lead on Season 15 of The Voice. She has the most (three) artists competing in the Top 8 live performances (December 10). All all three are in different genres. 15-year-old Sarah Grace is a bluesy pop/rock singer, 16-year-old Chevel Shepherd is pure country, and 26-year-old Kymberli Joye is a gospel singer. Kymberli usually sticks close to her roots and tends to sing gospel songs including Hillsong’s “Oceans” and Tasha Cobbs’ “Break Every Chain.” But for her Top 8 live performance, Kymberli is taking a risk and performing the country/pop crossover song “Never Alone.” The song is about leaning on one’s faith during difficult times.

The song, which was written by Victoria Shaw, Sarah Buxton and Gary Burr, was originally recorded by country star Sara Evans on Jim Brickman’s 2006 album Escape. Brickman then had Lady Antebellum re-record the song in 2007. Shaw says the lyrics were inspired by an Irish blessing a la “may angels protect you.” The lyrics include the line: “Know in your belly/ You’re never alone.” The Voice airs Mondays and Tuesdays at 8 pm on NBC.
