In The Big Bang Theory episode “The Comet Polarization,” while Penny (Kaley Cuoco) makes an astronomical discovery on the rooftop of the apartment building, Stuart (Kevin Sussman) gets an unexpected visitor to his comic book store. The visit from famous New York Times bestselling writer Neil Gaiman (who plays himself) puts Stuart’s store on the map.

[Neil Gaiman’s American Gods novel]
On the episode, Gaiman wears a black t-shirt featuring a white buffalo with the word Believe. The shirt celebrates Gaiman’s 2001 novel American Gods and the Starz TV series based on the novel. The premise of American Gods is that gods and mythological creatures exist because people believe in them. Several of the themes in the novel (a blend of Americana, fantasy and modern mythology) are alluded to in Gaiman’s previous comic book series, The Sandman. The Big Bang Theory airs Thursdays at 8pm on CBS, right before Young Sheldon. [Binge watch The Big Bang Theory whenever you want on CBS All-Access.]
