On the Lucifer episode “The Sinnerman,” while Detective Pierce (Tom Welling) returns to work after taking a bullet, Lucifer (Tom Ellis) makes a startling discovery. He realizes that everyone he does favors for starts turning up dead. He and Chloe (Lauren German) launch an investigation and come face-to-face with the mysterious and morally corrupt Sinnerman, LAPD’s main suspect in the kidnapping of Lucifer Morningside. Fun cultural fact about The Sinnerman: Nina Simone made the African-American spiritual song “Sinnerman” a hit in 1965 (listen to video below). It’s about a sinner trying to hide on Judgement Day. Story goes Simone learned the lyrics when a child. It was performed by her mother, a Methodist minister, at revival meetings to help people confess their sins.
