Actress Sofia Vergara won’t always be 45 years old. But her 45-year-old self in her 45-year-old birthday suit will be forever memorialized — since that’s what she wears on the cover of a recent Women’s Health magazine. The nude move was enough to win Vergara an exclamatory (and puzzling) headline in USA Today — “Sofía Vergara poses nude for a magazine cover — and she’s 45!” Is it properly feminist to celebrate Vergara’s courage for posing even though she’s so old? It’s hard to interpret the headline any other way besides can you believe Vergara had the nerve to get naked in her mid-forties? The giddy headline — exclamation point and all — is meant to be complimentary, but is it really so astonishing that a beautiful Hollywood star who’s hardly a senior citizen would pose this way in 2017?
For those that find the cover surprising, the accompanying video will probably shock. Revealing her bra size, claiming the all-natural authenticity of her hourglass figure (she says I’m a “32-Triple-D. My boobs are real and I had a baby”), Vergara is literally letting it all hang out as she goes from beloved TV star on Modern Family to movie star. She stars in the upcoming thriller Bent with Andy Garcia and Karl Urban. Wait, a leading lady in her mid-forties? USA Today has yet to proclaim its astonishment.
