The Season 12 premiere of America’s Got Talent was a dramatic one. Before adorable 12-year-old ventriloquist Darci Lynne Farmer received the Golden Buzzer treatment from judge Mel B, escape artist Demian Aditya performed a mystifying act. The 36-year-old from Jakarta, Indonesia lies in a water-filled tank with handcuffs on his ankles, wrists and neck. He has two minutes to escape from the tank before 900 pounds of sand falls on top of the tank and buries him alive. He succeeds.

Prior to appearing on America’s Got Talent, Demian entered a talent pageant (Seribu Island Pageant) and was named Mr Congeniality & Favourite. His other acts include staying inside an icebox waist-high for 7 hours (2012), and being buried in cement for more than 50 hours (2015, video below). America’s Got Talent airs Tuesdays at 8pm on NBC.
