It’s been two years since ABC News correspondent Diane Sawyer first interviewed Caitlyn Jenner (formerly Bruce Jenner). A lot has happened since. When Jenner, a known Republican, attended the 2017 inauguration of Donald Trump, many in the LGBT community voiced their disapproval. But Jenner believed she had “kind of positioned myself with the Republican party to try to help these people understand. [To help] the Republican party understand what the issues are for the LGBT community.” One month after his inauguration, President Trump revoked the transgender bathroom bill in public schools. Jenner “slammed” Trump — saying “From one Republican to another, this is a disaster” — but many say Jenner’s disapproval is a little too late.

Jenner is sitting down with Diane Sawyer again on April 21, just one month before the release of her book, The Secrets of My Life (available in the US on April 25). Jenner wrote the memoir with Buzz Bissinger, who wrote the Vanity Fair cover article which announced Jenner’s transition (and also Friday Night Lights). Bissinger said in a press release: “I elected to do this with Caitlyn because of the opportunity to create a book that will be riveting, important and reveal all the complexities and twists and turns of her life from boyhood to transition.” ABC 20/20 airs Fridays at 10pm on ABC.
