TLC’s new reality show Tattoo Girls is set in Springfield, Missouri, “a small town just a couple hundred miles west of St. Louis.” As Ink Ink tattoo shop owner and tattoo artist Kelsey explains, “Springfield is very close-minded and very religious.” But religion doesn’t keep many teenagers from having kids before they’re out of high school. Ink Ink manager and single mom Nikki says, “It’s a very complicated town: If you make it through high school, you’re praised but if you go to college you’re a nerd.” Springfield is also known for being where Brad Pitt is from.
Kelsey says Ink Ink is the only all-female tattoo shop in the Midwest. (There are two Ink Ink locations: the other is in Branson, Missouri.) The shop has a $60 minimum. 16- and 17-year-olds need parental consent. Tattoo Girls airs Tuesdays at 10pm on TLC.
