America’s Next Top Model has plus-size model Ashley Graham as a judge and the glittering show offers a fine example of racial, ethnic and gender diversity too, among its aspiring models. The ANTM model contestants are like a mini United Nations, breathtakingly beautiful and a genuine mosaic. But actress Danielle Brooks (Orange Is the New Black) still sees a major oversight as far as inclusiveness goes. As Brooks wrote on Instagram about the ANTM reboot: “You had an Asian, African, a redhead, transgender, an androgynous sister, even twins… (much love for that) but not 1 plus size woman.”
Seems of all the 28 models on the set, only judge Ashley Graham would require anything bigger than a size 6 or 8 according to Brooks. Brooks almost regretted making the point, since she was like many impressed with the other aspects of diversity on display. She wrote: “This is not a bashing of any sort but an observation.” But Brooks would be remiss if she didn’t point out the problem by the numbers: “67% of women are plus in the US,” she writes. 12,000 people liked her post.
