Fetty Wap had a busy year already, but he’s hardly holiday slacking. He just dropped the mixtape Zoovier, featuring 21 Savage and Monty. Stereogum nails the Fetty Wap way with its assertion that last year “Fetty Wap cranked out a fairly ridiculous stream of big crossover hits while still sounding, more or less, like an underground mixtape rapper. This year, he’s actually been an underground mixtape rapper.”

Hitting the undergound sound again when your debut album (just a year earlier) hit the Billboard 200 at numero uno isn’t what a lot artists would choose to do. But that’s what gives the prodigious Wap his credibility and his power. Could just be the Jersey Boy in him. They say you can take the boy out of Jersey, but — well you know how it goes.
