Gerard Way runs the kind of Twitter feed you can wake up to in the morning. The multi-talented artist, writer and musician is less likely to plug his own new offerings as encourage you to make your own. “I admire every one of you who gets up in the morning,” he wrote last month, “and still has love in their heart, hope, humanity, empathy.” He’s humble. “I feel I must learn to rebuild,” he writes. And encouraging: “make art, or words, or things, or simply dreams.”
These days the former lead singer of My Chemical Romance and author of The Umbrella Academy series is on the slate for Comic Cons all over the place. Because Way is also now the author of the Doom Patrol reboot under Way’s own imprint at DC Comics, Young Animal. And it’s not like he doesn’t have a solo music career, too. After My Chemical Romance called it quits in 2013, Way dropped Hesitant Alien. Now news is busting out that My Chemical Romance has reunited — or will — based on a video with the tender tinkling piano intro of “The Black Parade” and a date: 9/23/16. An album? A show might need too many logistics for a surprise, but a new My Chemical Romance album? When does Way find the time?
I feel I must learn to rebuild.
