It’s been decades since Biggie’s death and a year since tough guy Knicks forward Anthony Mason shuffled off this mortal coil. So it’s a good time to identify Mason as the mystery man in the Notorious B.I.G. cut “I Got a Story to Tell.” The Prada-laced narrative tells how Biggie cuckolded an anonymous New York Knick and then, caught in the act, robbed the Knickerbocker at gunpoint. (The song was released in 1997, after Biggie had moved on — also at gunpoint.)
At least rapper Fat Joe — a frequent courtside presence at Madison Square Garden — thought it was a good time to I.D. Mace. As a guest on ESPN’s Highly Questionable show, Fat Joe said the Knick was Anthony Mason. The claim certainly helped the show live up to its name, because two dead guys are pretty easy to talk about with impunity. And neither Mason nor Biggie were going to call in and dispute Fat Joe’s claim. Unfortunately, Fat Joe’s fingering of Mason does make it even less likely that the cuckolded Knick was Miss America‘s son Kiki Vandeweghe. Because that would have been a good story.
