Russell Crowe burst into the American consciousness in LA Confidential, all menace, barely-contained fury and earnest righteousness. Crowe has memorably inhabited dozens of characters since then, but he’s never been bigger than he was last summer. Literally, that is. The 6’0″ star told an Australian radio show that he beefed up to 268 pounds for his role starring opposite the lithe Ryan Gosling in The Nice Guys. Crowe took the opposite in “starring opposite” literally.
Gosling famously looks like he’s been “photoshopped” — at least that’s the conclusion Emma Stone’s character draws in Crazy, Stupid, Love when Gosling takes his shirt off. Safe to say, photoshopped is not how the 51-year-old Crowe will look at 268 pounds. (You’ll be able to check him out at his top weight when The Nice Guys premieres on May 20.) By the way, at 6’0″, 268 pounds Russell Crowe was officially obese with a Body Mass Index (BMI) of 36.3. According to the Centers for Disease Control, anyone with a BMI over 30 is obese.
