Nailah Franklin and Reginald Potts dately briefly in 2007. Not long after Franklin broke up with Potts, the 28-year-old pharmaceutical rep went missing. Days later, Franklin’s body was discovered, naked and asphyxiated, behind a vacant video store. Potts, who had a key to the video store, was convicted of first-degree murder.
There was an eight-year delay before Potts had his trial. (He insisted on representing himself until a judge appointed a public defender for him.) During Potts’ eight years in custody, Cook County Jail Chief Tarry Williams testified that Potts committed more than 200 violations including setting a fire in his cell and sabotaging plumbing.” Williams said Potts, who claims he is innocent of murder, was one of the Top 10 worst inmates. Dateline NBC will air its investigative report on March 18 at 10pm.
