Lisa Sarber Aldrich is the Michigan woman who bought a birthday cake at her local grocery store, Meijer, and asked the bakery employee behind the counter to write “Happy Birthday, Mandy” on it. “She said she would, and after a long time, she came and presented me with this cake.” (see photo above) Aldrich thanked the woman and when she went to pay for it the cashier thanked her, saying: “The girl who wrote that has Autism. Thank you for smiling and thanking her – even though she’s not supposed to write on cakes, you probably made her day.”
Since posting the story and photo on Facebook, Aldrich has been asked if it was “a marketing ploy” for Meijer. She followed up the post and wrote: “I never asked for all this publicity, I just wanted people to consider being nice to each other.” And she posted another photo of the cake – there’s just one corner left. “This is my breakfast today, as it has been since Saturday.”
