Former Sports Illustrated supermodel Kathy Ireland is a hugely successful businesswoman and HIV/AIDS awareness activist. Ireland was mentored by Oscar-winning actress Elizabeth Taylor who founded amfAR. In light of World AIDS Day, Entertainment Tonight interviewed Ireland who is continuing to carry out Taylor’s efforts to provide services to people living with AIDS. During the interview, Ireland shockingly revealed that Taylor ran a secret underground network out of her Bel Air home to get drugs to HIV patients.
Ireland, a devout Christian, is also a Pro-Life advocate. She says she was a Pro-Choice Christian until she read some of her husband’s medical books. (He’s a ER doctor.) She even changed her husband’s mind about abortion. And then she went on TV — on Huckabee and Bill Maher’s HBO show — and took a Pro-Life stance. “I was told it was a lose-lose situation and would kill my business,” said Ireland. According to Forbes in 2015, Ireland is worth $420 million.
