On The Good Wife, attorney Diane Lockhart (Christine Baranski) is coerced into playing the devil’s advocate. She thought she was hired to to prepare her client in a case regarding physician-assisted suicide. But when she’s told she has to argue the case in court, she says no. She won’t argue a anti-euthanasia case, it goes against her own beliefs, she says. But her client’s other lawyer, Ethan Carver, tells Diane that she really has no choice. “I hate being the bully here, I get very tense,” Carver tells Lockhart. He reminds Diane that she is compensated very well by her client. “If you don’t take over this case, we will lose and there’s no one else who knows it as well as you.”
