When Dennis Harker was a young man, his brother Gary went missing and was found dead. Thirty years after his brother’s death, Dennis’ 28-year-old son David went missing on September 29, 2013. Dennis used all the technology he didn’t have 30 years prior to help find his son. After a number of posts on Facebook which were seen by 2 million people, Dennis found his son a few days after he went missing. Unfortunately, David was found dead in the Mississippi River. His death was reported as an accidental drowning. “It was hard for us to accept that,” said Dennis, who was later diagnosed with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder.

Dennis is receiving treatment for PTSD and says things have gotten much better. Now he’s focused on helping other families. He has founded the Quad Cities Missing Persons Network which is helping families find their missing loved ones. Dateline NBC will air its interview with Dennis Harker on October 23 at 9pm.
