Lifetime’s TV movie Murder in Mexico: The Bruce Beresford-Redman Story is based on a true story. Beresford-Redman is serving 12 years in a Mexican jail for murdering his wife Monica Burgos. They were vacationing in Cancun when she was found dead, near the resort where the couple and their two children were staying. Burgos was strangled. Their children — daughter Camilla, now 10, and son Alec, now 8 — are living with Bruce Beresford-Redman’s parents in Los Angeles. Bruce’s father David is 82-years-old and his mother, Juanita, is 76-years-old.

After the conviction, Bruce’s mother Juanita wrote on the official Bruce Beresford Redman Facebook page: “He [Bruce] was of course very frustrated and angry at the guilty verdict handed down to him, as the prosecution case alone clearly proved him innocent. The appeal process in Quintana Roo is underway and Bruce and the family will fight at every level until his innocence is accepted and he is home with his children. The family, too, remains strong and well. The children’s reaction to the verdict was: ‘How can they say that?’ We all believe that somehow, hopefully soon, justice will be done and we will all be together once again.” Murder In Mexico: The Bruce Beresford-Redman Story will premiere on Lifetime on September 26 at 8pm. It will air again on September 27 at 12am, 7pm, and 11pm.
