Benjamin Statler is the filmmaker behind the documentary Soaked in Bleach. It’s based on the idea that Nirvana’s Kurt Cobain was murdered. Cobain was found dead in his Seattle home from a gunshot wound in April 1994. Adding to the conspiracy theory is former Chief of Seattle Police, Norm Stamper, who took became Chief just months before Cobain’s death. Stamper is now saying, “If I were the Chief of Police, I would reopen this investigation.” Stamper was responsible for the City’s response to the WTO protests in 1999 (using tear gas), which led to his resignation. He is now a writer.
Cobain’s widow, Courtney Love, and her lawyers have sent letters to movie theaters asking them not to show Soaked in Bleach. They says the film portrays her “in a false light and contains defamatory statements.” But critics have already seen it. The Hollywood Reporter says Soaked in Bleach “presents evidence one has a hard time dismissing.”
